Your user ID is only visible to you unless you share it with others, and it is only used for authenticating you against university systems.

When you edit your profile, there will be a field asking for a preferred name. We will add them to your profile so anyone doing a search will be able to find you by either your married or maiden name. If they have posted contact information, you can simply go ahead and contact them. If they have not posted any contact information, you can use the "Contact this alumnus" function. If they've allowed other alumni to contact them through the E-Community, any message you send through this function will be emailed to them, along with the contact information you provide.

Powered by Atlassian Confluence 7.All students who started in Fall or later have a mailservices account, which is provided to you through the Information Systems and Technology department IST. However, Engineering Computing still provides support for the Engineering faculty.
Those students who have an "Engmail" account are gradually being transferred to mailservices' servers. When this change is being made, you will be notified via email. Students can recieve mail sent from both username uwaterloo.
As Engmail is being phased out, we recommend that students do not give out their email as username engmail. Your email inbox can be accessed at www. Email forwarding is done through WatIam. Through there, you can whether or not you want your emails sent to your MyWaterloo inbox, or to an external inbox such as Gmail or Hotmail.
There will be a field to change your forwarding address. Log into your MyWaterloo account at www. Click on "SpamAssassin" from the options on the left menu.
Click on "mailservices" at the top. There will be a chart of different options that you can set. The default number is 5; higher numbers allow for more emails to go through, whereas a lower number will block more emails from going through.

Since the introduction of an integrated password system, where you use your Quest ID and password for most Waterloo services, in some situations, passwords need to be reset.
Often this occurs with passwords that are only seven characters long or passwords that have not been reset since this integration. To solve this problem a password reset is required.
If your old password is at least eight characters long and meets the password requirements often simply typing it in as your new password resolves this problem. However, if it is less than eight characters or does not meet the listed requirements, create a new one.
Sometimes, if you have switched faculties or are a very new student, a mail account has not been set up for you. For faculty and staff, please contact your computing support person, or the Arts Computing Office acohelp watarts. This is because they often have a routing address set to direct all the email they receive to a different address. Four months after you graduate your uWaterloo email will be deleted and you will no longer have access to that specific account. However, backups of all your email are made and you can still access old email if necessary, within a reasonable amount of time.

However, if you wish to adjust the SPAM filter for all messages, the following steps must be followed. You will be brought to a page which lists five different rules. The page will present you with two options: Spam Level and Folder to receive spam.
The first option allows you to actually set how strict or lenient the SPAM filter is. In the textbox provided enter a number between 1 and 10 where 10 is the most lenient and 1 is the most strict.
It is recommended that you set a number between as anything higher or lower will allow in too much SPAM or mark too many messages as SPAM when they are not. Finally, if you find that just a few emails are constantly being marked as SPAM or vice versa there is the option of whitelisting or blacklisting emails. Whitelisting ensures that any emails received from the address you enter will never be marked as SPAM whereas blacklisting does the opposite.
